Science and Technology [4–12 Years]

Exciting Activities at Our PD Day Camp!

Get ready for a day filled with hands-on learning and exploration! During our PD Day Camp, campers will participate in one or more of these exciting activities:

  • Engineering Structures: Campers will collaborate to build tall structures using LEGO that can withstand gravity, wind, and other elements. Their designs will focus on symmetry, stability, and height.
  • Paper Circuits: Campers will create electronic circuits using paper, foil, and batteries while learning about current, resistance, and voltage.
  • Scientific Observation: Using foldable microscopes, campers will dive into the microscopic world, discovering atoms and understanding how they form the building blocks of everything.
  • Space Day: Campers will explore the wonders of space, learning about stars, planets, and solar systems. They’ll also discover how airplanes and birds lift off the ground and gain insight into constellations and natural phenomena.

Coding, Animation & Game Design  [4-12 Years]

Exciting Activities at Our One-Day PD Day Camp!

Join us for an action-packed day where campers will dive into the world of technology, creativity, and fun! During the camp, one or more of the following activities will be covered:

  • Scratch: Learn to code using Scratch, a fun and interactive programming language developed by MIT. Coding feels just like playing a game!
  • Sphero: Explore robotics with Sphero, a robotic ball that can be controlled using a phone or tablet. Campers will learn the basics of programming and controlling this exciting gadget.
  • Tinkercad: Discover the world of 3D design and Minecraft mods! Campers will build intricate 3D creations, learn how to 3D print their designs, and even enhance Minecraft® worlds.
  • Minecraft: Dive into one of the most popular games ever! Campers will explore building, adventure, and creativity while learning new techniques to enhance their gameplay.
  • Stop-motion Animation: Create your very own stop-motion videos using an app on a phone or tablet. Campers can bring their imaginations to life with any materials they have!
  • CodeMonkey: An interactive platform where campers learn coding fundamentals through fun and engaging challenges. They will solve puzzles, build projects, and develop real-world programming skills while having a blast!

Robotics

Robotics [4–12 Years]

One-Day PD Day Camp: Explore the World of Robotics and Technology!

During our one-day PD Day Camp, campers will be introduced to one or more activities from a variety of robot technologies. These hands-on sessions are designed to expose campers to different types of robotics, programming languages, and challenges. The goal is to inspire curiosity and teach concepts in science, math, physics, and computer science in an engaging and interactive way.

Campers will develop their logical thinking skills, tackle fun challenges, and explore the exciting world of robotics!

Robotic Platforms Available:
  • Sphero Indi:
    A perfect introduction to robotics for younger learners! Campers will use color-coded tiles to program Sphero Indi, a robot designed to teach problem-solving, sequencing, and computational thinking in a fun and engaging way.
  • Micro:Bit:
    A tiny pocket-sized computer perfect for beginners in electronics and coding! Campers will learn to light up LEDs, display patterns, and connect the micro: bit to sensors and other devices for more advanced challenges. Programming is made simple with a drag-and-drop interface on the dedicated microbit.org website.
  • LEGO Spike Essentials:
    Campers will build and program interactive LEGO models using motors, sensors, and block-based coding. This activity combines creativity and problem-solving while introducing fundamental STEM concepts in an enjoyable way.
  • LEGO BricQ Motion:
    Campers will explore physical science concepts through hands-on experiments with LEGO BricQ Motion. They’ll build models to understand forces, motion, and energy, making science fun and interactive!
  • Simple and Powered Machines:
    Campers will explore forces, motion, and energy concepts by building complex mechanisms. These workshops enhance observational and design skills through exciting hands-on projects.

Digital Design

Digital Design [4–12 Years]

One-Day PD Day Camp: Hands-On Exploration of Digital Design and Technology!

Campers will immerse themselves in exciting activities focused on digital design, where they will unleash their creativity and develop essential skills using various innovative tools and technologies. Each session will introduce campers to one or more digital design activities, challenging them to create, design, and problem solve as they bring their ideas to life through engaging projects.

Overview of Activities:

  • 3D Printing – 3Doodler Create 3D:
    Campers will bring their ideas to life using the 3Doodler Create. This tool allows them to build fun 3D constructs like toys, gadgets, and models with just the push of a button. They’ll learn design, planning, spatial understanding, and creativity in a hands-on and engaging way.
  • Tux Paint:
    Perfect for younger campers (ages 4 to 8), Tux Paint combines computer literacy with fun drawing activities. With help from a built-in cartoon mascot guide, kids will paint amazing pictures and even use sound effects to enhance their creations.
  • Kid Pix 3D:
    Campers will use animations, backdrops, and 3D characters to tell fun stories. By using the flipbook feature, they can create their own 60-second animated short stories, honing their storytelling and creativity skills.
  • TinkerCAD:
    Campers will explore the world of 3D design using TinkerCAD, an easy-to-use online tool. They’ll learn how to create intricate 3D models, enhance their spatial thinking, and gain an understanding of engineering concepts.
  • Digital Pen Tablets:
    Campers will unleash their artistic talents by creating digital art using pen tablets. They’ll learn how to draw, design, and edit on a computer, enhancing their creativity and tech skills in a fun and innovative way.
  • Canva:
    Campers will learn to use Canva, an intuitive graphic design platform, to create stunning visuals, posters, and presentations. This activity will teach them valuable skills in digital design and creativity.
  • Google Slides:
    Campers will learn to create, edit, and present professional-looking slideshows using Google Slides. They’ll explore themes, animations, and video integration, mastering collaboration and presentation skills.
  • Kahoot!:
    Campers will design and participate in interactive quizzes called “Kahoots.” This activity fosters collaboration, learning, and creativity, all while making education fun and engaging.
