Join the Make:able Challenge, a global 3D design and innovation competition where students create assistive devices that improve the daily lives of people with disabilities or the elderly.
Through this inspiring journey, participants will combine empathy, creativity, and technology to make a meaningful difference — all while learning the future skills of 3D design, prototyping, and digital fabrication.
Understand the design thinking process — from empathy to ideation to creation.
Learn 3D modeling using Autodesk Tinkercad and Fusion 360.
Explore 3D printing fundamentals and prototyping.
Collaborate in teams to design an assistive-technology product.
Present your innovation through a professional submission video.
Dates: Every Friday, January 9 – May 15 (18 weeks)
Time: 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
Location: STEMOTICS Centre, Cambridge, ON
Each week, students will work through the official Make:able Toolkit by PrintLab—from learning user empathy and brainstorming solutions to mastering 3D design and presenting their final project.
Students will work in small teams (up to 5 members).
Each team will select a real-world end-user—either someone from the local community or a provided “Make:able Champion”— and design a device to meet their needs.
Final Submission Date: May 15, 2026
Teams will submit a 2–4 minute video showcasing their project, design process, and prototype.
Global recognition and amazing prizes (including 3D printers and design kits) awarded by PrintLab and Autodesk.
Participation Fee: $200 per month (materials included)
Access to 3D printers and software will be provided at the STEMOTICS Centre.
At STEMOTICS, we believe students don’t just learn technology — they use it to make a difference. Our mentors will guide you through the entire Make:able journey with weekly support, 3D printing facilities, and creative workspace access.
