Discover the excitement of STEM
FIRST® LEGO® League (FLL), created through a partnership between FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and the LEGO® Group, inspires future scientists and engineers!
Tomorrow’s innovators practice imaginative thinking and teamwork. Guided by adult coaches, FIRST LEGO League teams research real-world problems such as food safety, recycling, energy, etc., and are challenged to develop a solution. They also must design, build, and program a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology, then compete on a table-top playing field.

2024-2025- SUBMERGED
Beneath the ocean’s surface lies our planet’s most complex ecosystems, full of life and potential for exploration and learning, where each inhabitant has a role to play in building a thriving environment. During the 2024-2025 FIRST season, FIRST® DIVE℠ presented by Qualcomm, teams will use their STEM and collaboration skills to explore life beneath the surface of the ocean. Along the way, we’ll uncover the potential in each of us to strengthen our community and innovate for a better world with healthy oceans.

Why should you join the FIRST® LEGO® League?
When students are engaged in hands-on STEM experiences, they build confidence, grow their knowledge, and develop habits of learning. When adults coach these students, they encourage them to try, fail, and try again, while connecting STEM concepts to real-world examples.
FIRST® LEGO® League is the most accessible, guided, global robotics competition, helping students and teachers to build a better future together. The program is built around theme-based challenges to engage children ages 9 to 16* in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering. The foundation of the program is the FIRST® Core Values, which emphasize teamwork, discovery, and innovation. Students emerge more confident, excited, and equipped with the skills they need in a changing workforce.
FIRST® LEGO® League is an alliance between FIRST® and the LEGO® Group.
*Ages 9-14 in the U.S. and Canada. Ages vary by country.
IMPACT
Proven, verifiable lifetime impact!
The positive impact FIRST® LEGO® League has on participants is gratifying and well documented. Over 88% are more interested in doing well in school, and 87% have more interest in attending college.
FIRST® LEGO® League teams get to:
- Research challenges facing today’s scientists
- Design, build, test, and program robots.
- Apply real-world math and science concepts.
- Learn critical thinking, team-building, and presentation skills.
- Participate in tournaments and celebrations.
- Understand and practice Gracious Professionalism®
Explore the Future
In the SUBMERGED℠ challenge, launching August 6, 2024, FIRST® LEGO® League teams will use creative thinking and LEGO® technology to explore the layers of the ocean and bring their learnings and ideas to the surface as they “sea” into the future. Registration is now open.
